It's that time of year again. School supplies have been bought and are being put to the test already as school begins. Brand new outfits are coming home messy from a long day of learning and play. Nights are filled with homework and dinner and weekends are a jumble of family time, sports games, and rest(if we are lucky!). And when all these things happen, in means our Summer Program here at Horsefeathers comes to and end. And that's okay, but that means that new things are on the horizon for the rest of the year!
But before we can move on, I just wanted to share how much fun I have had this summer with you and your children. When I started kids canvas classes in February, I never dreamed that they would be enjoyed by so many families. As each one filled up and more people called wanted to come, the more excited I became for the possiblities once summer began. School would be out and that would mean I could teach ALL THE CLASSES!
And that I did!
So, this post is a lot of things. First of all, it's a thank you to YOU - the parents, grandparents, babysitters, famility members or friends - that entrusted us with your children when you could have brought them anywhere. This is my first job ever(and I've been working for 10 years) that has not directly dealt with teaching or watching children as my main role. And sometimes, I miss it. I miss the daily interactions with my students and families that would for a whole year, become an extended part of my family. But with these classes, I feel like I get the best of both worlds! I get to combine my love for art and teaching and children and the end result is AWESOME!
Many of you have become extended family of Horsefeathers. Each time your child is excited to run down the stairs and paint, it makes my heart swell. I love teaching your children and I love that they love to learn and create and have fun. Each of them brings something special to the table during our time together. I leave each night a little more tired than I was before, but a lot more full in my heart.
And you know what else? Some of you allow your children to come back multiple times! And I appreciate that! And I get to see them improve in every class, because this isn't just an excuse to fill two-three hours of their time with a non-sense art project. I try and include techniques and lessons that they might not even realize they are getting, but that they can take with them as their love for art grows. And then, I've seen some of them TEACH their neighbor for the night something they've learned from me. And that's when I silently smile and know that I am doing something right!
Your children have been a pleasure to teach this summer and I look forward to all the things we will create together in this coming school year. I've been hard at work learning new techiniques and new mediums to offer an even wider variety in our classes and I am excited!
So to all of those families I met this summer, to all the amazing existing families I've known for a few months or a few years, and to families I have yet to meet - thank you for making Horsefeathers what it is today! Your support means the world to us!
